Specialised research applications

Specialised applications are software applications that are additional to those provided as part of the standard image. They include applications dedicated to undertaking computationally and data intensive research, and for supporting research in specialised academic fields.

The Specialist Computer Sciences team in Technical Services manage and support many of the specialist research software applications, and can assist new users with access to existing software or the purchase and installation of new software.

The team also provide full support for purchase and implementation of specialist hardware such as high-performance workstations, either dual boot Windows and Linux or solely Linux operating systems. The same level of support is also provided for Mac OS hardware and software.
