Specialist printers
As well as the general multi-functional printers across campus, the University also provides a small fleet of specialist multi-functional printers designed to better meet the needs of students within the School of Art.
These printers are of a higher specification, and are able to utilise a wider range of print media such as acetate and different paper weights.
Using specialist printers
The specialist Ricoh printers in the Art School support the development of your art & design projects, from process & experimentation to final outcomes & portfolio presentation. They can be used with specialist paper stocks purchased from the Make More store.
Locations
All our specialist printers are located in the Manchester School of Art:
- Lowry Building — 2nd Floor open Studio Space (4 printers)
- Lowry Building — 3rd Floor open Studio Space (3 printers)
- Chatham Tower — 1st Floor Village Green (3 printers)
Using specialist media
The specialist printers are designed to accommodate a wider range of media than the standard MFD printers available in the University. These can be loaded via the manual feed tray on the machines. Please see the Ricoh user guide, below, for more information.
All media used must be suitable for use with laser printers. Specialist media can be purchased from the Make More store, including:

Other media may be available subject to testing - please contact the Make More Store for more information. Please note, fabrics and material cannot be used on the specialist printers.
Costs
Costs for printing from the specialist printers is the same as the general multifunctional printers, and can be used with standard paper provided. Additional costs for specialist papers will vary depending on the material chosen.
Support
The Specialist Printers are intended to produce higher quality printing, suitable for courses in the School of Art. Careful consideration of the print settings and colour configuration in your files may be needed in order to get the best results.
