PCs and Macs: locations and availability

There are Windows and Mac computers in locations across campus. Get up-to-date information on:

Specialist software on campus

Some software is only available in certain locations. To see what software is installed where, see these software locations spreadsheets (you’ll need to log in with your university account):

Using these spreadsheets:

  • Rooms are listed in the green rows along the top, and applications are listed in the column on the left.
  • On the Windows spreadsheet, you can use the tabs along the bottom to move between buildings.
  • A tick means that the software is available on computers in that room.

Computer shutdown and power saving policies

We shut down unattended computers to save energy. The sections below show how long a computer can be inactive before being shut down automatically.

Some computers are also scheduled to shut down at a certain time - for example, when the building closes.

When a computer shuts down, any files saved to the desktop are deleted. For this reason, never save files to the desktop.

We recommend saving to OneDrive, and saving regularly. For more information on file storage, see: File Storage.
