Relationships can be a great source of pleasure and support but they can also be a source of grief or anguish if they breakdown.

Having healthy relationships with fellow students and academic tutors is a vital part of university life, and being able to build relationships with new people in new environments can stop you feeling isolated.

If you need help to manage relationships more effectively, please consider the following:

  • Good relationships require commitment, compromise and clear communication. Look at the support information from Relate, who specialise in relationship issues and have lots of ideas on how to change things.
  • The Mix provide useful information for the under 25s, including sex and relationship advice.
  • Attending our workshops and courses on topics such as Overcoming Social Anxiety may bring positive changes that improve your relationships.
  • Take care of yourself - improve your wellbeing at our weekly mindfulness sessions.
  • Consent education is important in building healthy and respectful relationships. It’s best to ask first, every time. We offer all students the opportunity to take a free online course called ‘Consent Matters.’
  • Student Space guidance on relationships and social life during coronavirus produced by Student Minds.
  • MMU Library Wellbeing Wakelet contains a collection of resources you can use to improve your wellbeing, including resources on relationships. You’ll find links to the Library catalogue (for print books and ebooks), websites, PDFs, podcasts and videos

We provide further information about support for domestic violence and abuse, sexual violence and rape.
