Please call 999 if you are in serious distress, or in danger of harming yourself or others. Alternatively:
- Go to your Accident and Emergency Department at your local hospital. The nearest to Manchester Met is the Manchester Royal Infirmary 0161 276 4147. Search for other accident and emergency services
- Contact your GP (Doctor) to request an emergency appointment or call NHS 111
- Call Samaritans 116 123 (free to call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year)
- Contact HOPELINE247 08000684141 or text 88247 for confidential support and practical advice (24 hours a day, 365 days a year)
- Call SANEline 0300 304 7000 (4:30pm - 10:30pm, 365 days a year)
- SHOUT provides text-based crisis support. Text SHOUT to 85258
- The Greater Manchester NHS Mental Health Helpline is open 24/7, call0800 953 0285
- MindLine Trans+ is a confidential, emotional, mental health support helpline for people who identify as Trans, Agender, Gender Fluid, Non-binary - available Fridays, 8pm to midnight 0300 330 5468
- Student Space offers text-based, webchat and phone support. Text STUDENT to 85258 (24 hours a day), start a webchat between 4:00pm and 11pm or call 0808 808 4994 (3:00pm to 12:00am).
Manchester Met’s Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing team can be contacted on 0161 247 3493 Monday to Friday 8:45am to 4:30pm. You can also email the service at counselling@mmu.ac.uk.
The University Security Team operates all year round - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be contacted in emergency situations by calling 0161 247 2222.

Information for family and friends
Encourage the student to contact our service by phoning 0161 247 3493 or emailing counselling@mmu.ac.uk. If you are really concerned, encourage them to follow the steps above. If you need advice on what to do, call 0161 247 3493 and we will arrange for you to speak to a Counsellor.
We do understand that it can be distressing to know that someone you care about is having a difficult time. We cannot reveal information about students who use our Service because it is confidential but we will listen to your concerns and take appropriate action, including assisting you in making choices about how you might help.
