Below are some of the changes you asked for that made your student experience better:

  • Financial Support

    WIDER ACCESS TO FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Our cost cost-of-living hub makes accessing support easier.

  • Future me week

    SUPPORT WITH YOUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT

We used your feedback to tailor our second Future me week.

  • Have your say

MORE WAYS TO HAVE YOUR SAY

We introduced different ways for you to share your feedback.

  • Teaching and academic support

More skills to prepare you for work

We’re TEF Gold, and part of the reason education at Manchester Met is rated “Outstanding”, is the work-integrated learning you experience as part of your studies. In 2023, 74% of you had the opportunity to benefit from integrated practice-based and employer-informed content such as a mock game studio, simulated hospital experiences, enterprise, and live projects with external organisations and much more.

    Efficient coursework extensions

To help you in an unexpected time of need, we’ve kept the seven-day self-certified coursework extension via Moodle. We also launched evidenced requests for longer periods or deferred assessments.

    Free access to Adobe

In 2023, we provided free access to Adobe Premium software including Creative Cloud (Photoshop, XD, & Illustrator), and free Adobe and Microsoft training via LinkedIn Learning and certification through RISE.

    Improved unit option selection

We’ve made extensive improvements to the option selection website based on your feedback to make it easier to make your selections.

  • Health and wellbeing

More chances to get involved with sports and societies

We’ve removed compulsory teaching from Wednesday afternoons to give you more time to get involved in enriching activities such as sports, socialising, volunteering and RISE.

    Wider access to financial support

Our online cost-of-living hub gives you easy access to mental health and wellbeing support, budgeting advice, the student hardship fund and more.

    Access to more chaplaincy spaces

In addition to the refurbished central prayer rooms and chaplaincy at All Saints, we now provide quiet rooms across the University in John Dalton East, Sandra Burslem, Brooks, Geoffrey Manton, and Manchester Technology Centre to provide local spaces for reflection, prayer, or to take some time out.

  • Employability and careers

    Employment support post-graduation

We expanded our digital and coaching support to our newest alumni by adding local employer and graduate vacancies. In 2023, we supported over 350 graduates into jobs, internships, or further education through our Early Career Graduate coaching service.

    More connections with employers

You all have access to in-person and hybrid employability opportunities – from job fairs to placement events.  2024 will see the launch of the ‘Festival of New Talent’ and the ‘Launch Your Future Graduate Careers Fair’.

    Work experience and placement opportunities

In 2023, the Careers Service helped more of you secure placements, increased jobs on campus by 46%, and through Jobs4Students we have paid over £2m in student wages.

  • Learning resources

    More quiet places to study

We refurbished the fifth floor of the library to become a quiet-only study zone, providing a bigger space for independent study.

    More specialised e-resources

We invested an additional £250k to make more e-resources and e-books available.  We also launched Request It! This makes it easier for you to find and request resources for your subject on the library website.

    Library day pass tickets

We’ve made accessing the library easier, so if you forget your ID you won’t miss out.  You will be able to authenticate through a day pass kiosk and print out a temporary pass to enable you to swipe into the library.

  • Student voice

More opportunities and events to launch the year

In September 2023, we offered 72 Getting Ready to Learn workshops and made Welcome Week bigger and better to give you the chance to start your year feeling more confident and connected.

    Quicker response to enquiries

We invested more into the Student Hubs. As a result, in 2023 95% of you who attended a Hub helpdesk had your enquiry resolved immediately.

    Easier to book accommodation

We’ve introduced StarRez to improve the booking and induction for all residential students and spent over £1m upgrading the accessibility of our halls.

National Student Survey

Share your views and make a difference

What is the NSS?

The NSS is a survey aimed at final-year undergraduates across the UK to gather student opinions about their experiences on their course. It asks questions on a range of areas including teaching quality, learning opportunities, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community, student voice and overall satisfaction.

Answering each question is easy. Simply pick the response (each question is a four-point scale) that most applies to your experience at Manchester Met. Think about your entire time with us, and remember to take into account life beyond your course.

What difference will my response make?

This is your chance to reflect on your student experience at Manchester Met and provide feedback about your course.

The survey results will be used by the University and the Union to make real changes to the student experience. You’ll also be helping prospective students make the right choices of where and what to study.

Where can I fill it in?

The survey can be accessed via the NSS website on any device.

Who is eligible?

All students studying courses leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications that are longer than one year of full-time study or its part-time equivalent (such as bachelor’s degrees, foundation degrees or higher education diplomas) will be surveyed in their final year of study.

Students on more flexible part-time programmes (whose final year cannot be easily predicted) will normally be surveyed during their fourth year of study. Students who have withdrawn from study during their final year will be included in the survey as their feedback is equally valuable. Unless otherwise removed, students who have repeated a year or have changed their course arrangements but were originally expected to graduate in 2024 will still be surveyed in the current year. Students who were already surveyed in 2023 will not be surveyed in 2024.

You can find more information about eligibility on the NSS website.

How will my data be used?

The survey is carried out independently by Ipsos MORI (an independent research company in the UK), and all their research is conducted in compliance with data protection legislation.

Your responses to the survey are strictly confidential and will be anonymised before they are made available to the University.

The NSS results are made available through the Discover Uni website, which is designed to help prospective students make the important decision of where and what to study.

These results are also used by the University to help us to develop and improve the academic experience for future students.

How can I opt out?

The NSS is conducted by Ipsos MORI (an independent research company) who will be contacting eligible students throughout the campaign to invite them to complete the survey.

All students can opt out of the survey from Ipsos MORI if they wish. Please visit the survey website if you wish to opt-out. If you decide to take part in the survey or opt-out, no further contact will be made by Ipsos MORI.

The University will also contact you to remind you to complete the survey. We are not informed about who has or has not taken part. Please contact [email protected] if you do not want to receive NSS emails from the University.

Prize draw information

As a thank you for taking the time to fill in the survey, you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win one of 100 x £50 Love2Shop vouchers or one of 10 x Graduation packages once you complete the survey.

Please note that the prize draw is administered by Ipsos MORI. The prize winners will be notified by email by Friday 8 March.
