How to complete the forms

Once you have accessed the form, select complaint from the case type drop-down and enter your details.

You will then need to:

  • confirm if you are disabled or have a specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia) or a long-term health condition that you believe is relevant to your case, and provide details about this
  • fully explain the details of your complaint
  • confirm whether you have already taken any action or spoken to anyone in an attempt to resolve this matter. If you have, please give details, including the outcome. It is usually advised that you attempt to resolve the matter
  • provide details of how the issues reported have impacted you
  • tell us what outcome you expect to receive
  • attach any relevant evidence you might have and confirm you have done this. If you wish to add multiple files, first save and name them all in the same location on your device, then use ctrl and left mouse click to select multiple documents

Remember to include your case number and student ID with any evidence so we know what it relates to.

Deadlines to submit a case

Evidenced extensions

Where possible, you should submit an evidenced extension claim (previously called assessment mitigation) before your coursework submission deadline or exam.

If you submit a claim after your coursework deadline, you may not get an extension and may have to resubmit in the next assessment period.

For more information on how to apply for an evidenced extension, you can visit the digital student hub

Complaints

The sooner you raise a complaint, the easier it is for the University to investigate.

If you wish to make an informal complaint, we expect you to do so within one month of an incident. If you wish to make a formal complaint you must do so within three months of the incident.

If you have left the University or have recently graduated, you should make a formal complaint within three calendar months of your registration ending. Complaints submitted after this are only considered in exceptional circumstances.

Academic appeals

  • Evidenced extension (formerly assessment mitigations): you must appeal within 14 days of receiving your decision
  • Academic misconduct: you must appeal within 14 days of receiving your decision
  • Material irregularity: you must appeal within 14 days of receiving your results from the assessment board
  • Against withdrawal: you must appeal within seven days of the date on your withdrawal letter

Any appeals submitted after these deadlines may not be considered.

If your appeal is late, you must clearly explain the reasons why. If these reasons are not considered reasonable, your appeal will not be considered.
