Deadlines to submit a case
Evidenced extensions
Where possible, you should submit an evidenced extension claim (previously called assessment mitigation) before your coursework submission deadline or exam.
If you submit a claim after your coursework deadline, you may not get an extension and may have to resubmit in the next assessment period.
For more information on how to apply for an evidenced extension, you can visit the digital student hub.
Complaints
The sooner you raise a complaint, the easier it is for the University to investigate.
If you wish to make an informal complaint, we expect you to do so within one month of an incident. If you wish to make a formal complaint you must do so within three months of the incident.
If you have left the University or have recently graduated, you should make a formal complaint within three calendar months of your registration ending. Complaints submitted after this are only considered in exceptional circumstances.
Academic appeals
- Evidenced extension (formerly assessment mitigations): you must appeal within 14 days of receiving your decision
- Academic misconduct: you must appeal within 14 days of receiving your decision
- Material irregularity: you must appeal within 14 days of receiving your results from the assessment board
- Against withdrawal: you must appeal within seven days of the date on your withdrawal letter
Any appeals submitted after these deadlines may not be considered.
If your appeal is late, you must clearly explain the reasons why. If these reasons are not considered reasonable, your appeal will not be considered.
