About FLEX 30

This unit provides participants with an opportunity to take a practice-based approach to their professional development by choosing to focus their assignment around one of the unit’s five themes, or on a topic of their own devising agreed with the unit tutor.

The themes align to Manchester Metropolitan’s institution-wide ‘Road to 2030’ strategy, its education strategy and the internationalisation strategy currently under development (Manchester Met, 2022).

Participants select one or more themes appropriate to their professional role, undertake CPD activities in relation to that theme, including engaging with the materials provided, and then produce a Written Critical Reflection about these thematic activities for the assessment. Those participants who wish to work on a combination of themes or a topic of their own devising are very welcome to do so, following a discussion with the unit tutor.

The themes are:

  • Awarding Gaps.
  • Assessment and Feedback.
  • Inclusive Practice.
  • Carbon Literacy.
  • Education for Sustainable Development.
  • Unit Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit participants will be able to:

    1. Critically reflect on their participation in practice-based professional development activities.
    2. Analyse appropriate literature to inform their professional development activities and practice.
    3. Create an informed action plan that evidences the rationale of intended changes to their own practice and/or workplace improvement activities.
  • Unit Assessment

The assignment for this unit is a 3000-word Written Critical Reflection. Participants can exceed the word limit by 500 words, but assignments in excess of 3500 words are likely to be self-penalising.
