All students use interactive eBooks in physiology, biomechanics, psychology and practical skills which have been specially created by staff from the department. The eBooks contain a blend of text, images, interactive tasks, video lectures and other videos. You will consider how to combine knowledge from these disciplines to enhance sports performance, health and well-being. Our distance learning sport and exercise science course has a strong applied focus and will draw upon your experiences of exercise, sport, fitness and physical activity to form a context for your learning.
After an initial compulsory attendance at the induction, the course is taught mainly via distance learning. At both Certificate and Diploma levels, there is one mandatory five-day residential to attend on campus in Manchester. At BSc level, there are two mandatory residential visits.

Distance learning fee: £2312.50 per 30 credits studied. This tuition fee is agreed subject to UK government policy and parliamentary regulation and may increase each academic year in line with inflation or UK government policy for both new and continuing students. The total amount you pay each year may differ based on the number of credits studied.
Distance learning fee: £5000 per 30 credits studied. The fee per credit will remain the same for each year of your course providing you complete it in the normal timeframe (eg no repeat years or breaks in study). The total amount you pay each year may differ based on the number of credits studied.
A degree typically comprises 360 credits, a DipHE 240 credits, a CertHE 120 credits, and an integrated masters 480 credits. The tuition fee for the placement year for those courses that offer this option is £1,850, subject to inflationary increases based on government policy and providing you progress through the course in the normal timeframe (no repeat years or breaks in study). The tuition fee for the study year abroad for those courses that offer this option is £1,385, subject to inflationary increases based on government policy and providing you progress through the course in the normal timeframe (no repeat years or breaks in study).
Part-time students may take a maximum of 90 credits each academic year.

The University also has PC labs and a laptop loan service that can be used for residential visits. However, many students choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop. Students may occasionally need to print their assignments and other documents. Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop up to £100 each year for books and printing. Total optional cost: £400.
Students are required to cover the cost of their accommodation during the residential periods, food other than breakfast is covered. Estimated cost £80 per night.

Money MattersThanks to recent high profile sporting events in the UK, sport and exercise are in the spotlight as important ways to improve health and wellbeing. It’s an exciting time to get involved and there are a huge number of opportunities in the sector.
There has also been a significant shift in the way exercise and sport are seen as vehicles for improving the health and wellbeing of the population. This will generate a range of new graduate employment opportunities for which these courses offer first-class preparation. There are various career paths for graduates of sport and exercise science within sport governing bodies, clubs, organisations, schools, research centres, academic institutions, as well as hospitals and medical centres specialising in health, fitness and rehabilitation. Some students may progress to masters level study and beyond.
