All students on a fashion design programme can expect to purchase art materials, sketchbooks, paper, calico, fabric and other materials in order to undertake and complete assignments.
Potential costs include:
*Paper and printing costs are estimated from £100 upwards in year one and two and increase in year three, dependant on students’ selections of media.
**Costs of garment-making materials can vary significantly, dependant on students’ designs and fabric selections. In years one and two, the estimated annual minimal spend for full time students for both levels is £350 for these materials, but students can spend as much as £1200. In year three students produce a final collection of garments making three to six outfits and costs again vary dependent on design and choice of materials. Students can spend as little as £500 or as much as £6,000 on their final collection. However, a higher spend is not reflected in assessment outcomes. Students are supported through the year on making fabric option decisions and are encouraged to take an enterprising approach in the creation and adaptation of fabrics, elevating them through their textile skills. Students are also encouraged to apply for sponsorships and awards through the facilitation of competition applications within the programme. Students also have access to a fabric suppliers list with information on wholesalers and may benefit from fabric donated by industry. Subsidised materials are also available to purchase on campus.
Optional Placements and/or Study Abroad between year two and three. Students are encouraged to obtain paid placements. Additional costs for travel /relocation, accommodation and subsidies to salary may be required depending on position, salary offer, duration and location. There are fee implications if a student chooses to undertake a placement.
There are no additional professional membership fees required for full qualification.
Optional national and/or international study trips, typically during year one and two. These are mostly funded by students. Costings are sourced from university-approved agents and will vary in-line with the current market and student numbers.
Optional Study Abroad (Exchange) in year two. Study abroad is included in the standard university annual fee. However, there are usually additional costs for travel and accommodation. International funding may be available to apply for, dependent on country and international policy / governmental agreements in place at the time.
