You will study five 15 credit modules alongside three 15 credit option units. Please note that the following list of modules is indicative and may be subject to change.
This module is primarily concerned with the way in which the law regulates and protects the expression of creative endeavour. It examines the legal rules and principles of intellectual property (IP) rights that are relevant to most business and entertainment contexts. The module considers the practical context in which IP law operates to develop an understanding of IP’s relationship with the business, entertainment, and media sectors and its application in practice.
The syllabus will include the law and practice relating to copyright law, the tort of passing off, registered and unregistered trademark law and the law on image rights. You will also consider how torts such as Breach of Confidence and Misuse of Private Information interact with IP law.
This module builds on the tools and techniques from Principles of Strategic Management (Level 5), and is concerned with the strategic choices available to organisations to achieve competitive advantage in a global economy. The managerial decisions, processes and activities that allow the creation and implementation of an effective global strategy are discussed and reflected upon through a combination of theories and real-world case studies. This module explains that strategic management is one of the most imperative considerations in the global economy. Organisations and Managers can no longer base their strategies on the assumption that global markets will remain stable with steady growth.
This module aims to help students become responsible leaders by developing the critical tools and moral imagination required to analyse and manage the ethical and sustainability challenges they are likely to encounter in the workplace.
The impact of humans upon the environment has never been more relevant and we are faced with the challenge of balancing development and living standards with the capacity of the natural world to support it. This module will consider the ways in which the law regulates human activity to achieve that balance, considering successes, failures, and potential solutions and the reasons for them.
National, regional and international mechanisms will be considered as well as the tools which environmental law has developed and adopted in its efforts to protect that on which we so fundamentally rely, the environment.
