This course focuses on the development of skills and knowledge required for forensic psychology practice. We've designed this course for students to progress from masters level study towards practitioner status. Successful completion of the programme will enable you to apply for registration as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
This course is predominantly work-based but you’ll also have the opportunity to attend university-based /online workshops and be supported by an online learning platform throughout the course. Applicants must hold a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited MSc Forensic Psychology and be working in a relevant forensic psychology setting, with a minimum of 12 months experience. All eligible applicants will have an informal interview with the PgDip Programme Leader.
All students must have access to a Registered Forensic Psychologist within their forensic setting who will take the role of the Clinical Supervisor and be able to provide them with a minimum of 2 hours supervision per fortnight. Manchester Met will provide an Academic Supervisor for the duration of the programme. Both supervisors and the student are expected to attend quarterly tripartite supervision meetings to assess the student’s practice against the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Practitioner Psychologists.

A masters qualification typically comprises 180 credits, a PGDip 120 credits, a PGCert 60 credits, and an MFA 300 credits. Tuition fees will remain the same for each year of study provided the course is completed in the normal timeframe (no repeat years or breaks in study).

All of the books required for the course are available from the library. The University also has PC labs and a laptop loan service. However, you may choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page. Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop and up to £100 each year for books and printing.
Successful completion of this course will provide you with eligibility to apply to the register to practice as a forensic psychologist in the UK.
You’ll spend most of your time in your workplace, working under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, developing the skills required to be a practitioner psychologist.
