Management and Consultancy

This module presents a systematic approach to the study of strategy building upon an array of ideas and theories ranging from industrial organisation theory and institutional economics. The first half of the module outlines the fundamentals of strategic management and will give students an introduction in this important area of business management. The second half of the module builds on the tools and techniques from the first half and is concerned with the strategic choices available to organisations to achieve competitive advantage in a global economy. The managerial decisions, processes and activities, that allow the creation and implementation of an effective global strategy are discussed and reflected-upon through a combination of theories and real-world case studies.

This module introduces the core concepts of logistics and supply chain management from both a global and regional perspective. The module examines in detail the latest practices in logistics and supply chain management utilising real business examples, case studies and theory. These include supply chain analysis, order fulfilment, inventory policy, distribution centre operations, transport planning, sales and operations planning and ethical policies.

This module will provide students with an understanding of marketing and marketing management, and the application of specific marketing tools to a range of business contexts.

Management Consultancy gives insight into the practice and purpose of consultancy interventions in organisations this includes project management, client relations, working as a problem-based team and business ethics. Students will receive a real-world business problem and will apply a range of different skills and problem-solving tools to complete a successful project in a consultancy team leading to a client report and oral presentation. Finally, students will reflect on the learning process to further become reflective practitioners.

This module investigates and introduces basic theories, concepts and application of financial accounting, management accounting and finance in a modern organisation. Students are not expected to become proficient in specific aspects of the different financial tools and techniques discussed in the module. Rather, as aspiring middle managers, they are expected to understand how the financial professional in an organisation can integrate with the other management functions to support and achieve the organisational strategic objectives.

This is a final capstone project. It is an individual assessment that either entails students working on a real-life experiential project underpinned by primary fieldwork and/or secondary research on the challenges that businesses face within the area under study. This module can take many forms, including Strategic Management Project, Consultancy-Based Project or Enterprise-Based Business Plan.

This module studies the transformational changes required to address the global challenges across the world today. Students will gain a critical appreciation of social, ethical & environmental challenges facing the enterprise for a better future.
