When you come to the UK to study, you will have to pay:
- tuition fees
- accommodation fees
- your living costs
- visa and other immigration charges
Tuition fees
UK university fees for international students depend on what you want to study, your nationality, where you have been living and how long you have lived there.
By law, when you apply to study at Manchester Metropolitan we must must assess whether you are a:
- home or UK student
- international student
Find out how we calculate your fee status and how much you will need to pay.
Important changes to tuition fee rules
From August 2024, if you acquire ‘settled’ immigration status during your course, you might be able to switch from paying ‘overseas’ fees to paying ‘home’ fees from the next academic year of your current course (this might be Year 2, 3, 4 or later of your course). Any fee change would only apply from the year of eligibility and is not retrospective.
Please note that the rules around fee statuses are very complex, and this change is not the only requirement that must be met in order to qualify for fee re-assessment. Full details of the requirements are set out in UKCISA’s ‘Who pays ‘home’ fees for higher education in England?’ guide.
If you believe that you are eligible to qualify for a fee re-assessment, please first consult UKCISA’s guide to check all the relevant requirements for the category which applies to you. If you believe you meet all the relevant criteria, please complete the Fee Re-Assessment Form so that our team can consider your case in good time ahead of the next academic year.
Accommodation fees
When you study with us, you can apply to live in university accommodation or rent a home from a private landlord.
Our university accommodation is organised into halls of residence. Explore the halls of residence available to you and find out how much they cost to rent on our accommodation page.
If you want to rent from a private landlord, we can help you find a safe and secure place to live through our Manchester Student Homes service.
Your living costs
Your living costs will include your food, shopping and other expenses. How much you spend will depend on your lifestyle.
You can estimate your living costs using this online calculator. Or visit our guide to student living costs in Manchester.
Visa and other immigration charges
If you need a visa, you will have to pay the application fee when you apply for it. As part of your visa application, you must also pay a one-off fee to access public healthcare—this is called the ‘immigration health surcharge’.
Scholarships and financial aid
You may be able to get financial help with the cost of studying in the UK, such as a scholarship.
