This collection includes comics, annuals, zines, posters, vinyl records and other objects, as well as a collection of punk and post punk fashion. It is the result of years of collecting by the renowned graphic designer Professor Malcolm Garrett, an alumni of the Manchester School of Art. His love of pop culture has had a huge influence on his work.
Malcolm Garrett is known for his iconic record sleeve covers of the 1970s and 1980s, for Buzzcocks, Duran Duran and Peter Gabriel amongst others, and for his early adoption of digital technology in design.

The collection includes:
- material relating to science fiction and espionage TV shows of the 1960s, such as The Avengers, Gerry Anderson and TV21, James Bond, The Man from U.N.C.L.E and Z Cars
- objects and souvenirs from the New York World’s Fair in 1939/40 and the Festival of Britain in 1951

There is also a significant collection of 20th century British counter-culture and punk material, including punk and post-punk clothing, footwear and accessories. The majority of this is by Dame Vivienne Westwood and there are many examples of her clothing from the 1970s Seditionaries period, later couture pieces and high street designs.
