Research group: Nanotechnology
Improving the performance of a wide range of materials by manipulating their properties at the molecular level.
About
About our research
Our research helps to make advances in the understanding and manipulation of materials at the nanoscale level — right down to the manipulation of individual molecules.
This boosts the performance of materials in industrial processes, and improves protection, treatment and purification methods across sectors.
We have developed nanosized porous particles for use in medical treatments, and produced single-molecule magnets, which display magnetic memory and can so store digital information at a molecular level.
We bring together specialists in subjects ranging from sensors and drug delivery systems to graphene, batteries and magnets.
Our research areas include:
- nanomaterial synthesis and characterisation
- fuel cells
- zeolite synthesis and applications
- metal-organic frameworks for antimicrobial applications
- molecular magnetism
- mesoporous silica nanoparticles for controlled drug delivery applications
- supercapacitors and batteries
- graphene and related 2D materials
We work closely with the University’s pioneering PrintCity facility and the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre.
