Alumni Chapter Hong Kong Round-Up

Hong Kong is key in growing Manchester Met’s global standing as a provider of high-quality education and research with impact. 

The Alumni Chapter Hong Kong is managed by alumni volunteers, Charlotte Kong, Stanley Lam, Jessie Lau, Frankie Lee, Kyle Lin and Jim Yeung and aims to promote and further Manchester Metropolitan’s vision and interests in Hong Kong. The Chapter manages a programme of networking events for alumni and manages a successful mentoring programme for Law students studying via our Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) partnership.

Mentoring Sessions

Throughout the year, the Chapter successfully ran a mentoring programme for Law students studying via our HKU SPACE partnership. The mentoring scheme connects law students (mentees) with alumni (mentors) who volunteer their time to give insights and advice about the law profession and enrich their studies. Over 450 students benefitted from the advice that the alumni mentors shared over six separate mentoring sessions.

Go Global Week: March 7, 2023

At the start of the year, the Chapter participated in Go Global Week 2023. Jessie Lau and Stanley Lam represented the Chapter in a video interview session, talking to students in Manchester about the law profession in Hong Kong. Their discussion provided valuable insights into the legal profession, inspiring the next generation of legal practitioners.  

Events Subcommittee Meet-Up: March 30, 2023

Under the leadership of Jessie Lau and Frankie Lee, the Events Subcommittee organised a productive meet-up, bringing together alumni to brainstorm and plan upcoming initiatives within the Chapte

Hong Kong Alumni Reception: November 4, 2023

The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the Hong Kong Alumni Reception. The event was hosted by the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor International, Professor Jenny Watling and Professor Andrew Francis, Dean of Manchester Law School.  

During the reception, alumni enjoyed meeting University representatives and hearing about the latest developments from across the University, as well as networking with other graduates living in Hong Kong.  The impact of the many alumni volunteers and mentors were celebrated at the event.

Graduation ceremony at HKU SPACE: November 5, 2023

We celebrated and welcomed the new cohort of Manchester Met law graduates to the alumni community at their graduation ceremony at HKU SPACE.

Go Global Week: March 5, 2024

As part of Go Global Week 2024, Jessie Lau and Ricardo Wong participated in a panel event at the Law School, speaking on the global legal landscape and sharing their experiences with aspiring lawyers.

Fragrance workshop: March 9, 2024

Stanley Lam organised a personalised fragrance workshop in March, where alumni could connect in a creative setting.

Golf Event: May 5, 2024

Organised by volunteer Jessie Lau, our Alumni Chapter Hong Kong enjoyed reuniting at Hi Tee Golf, a high-tech indoor simulation centre.
