How Manchester Met's research and education tackles climate change
All Saints

Manchester Met is continuing to celebrate its 200th anniversary by shining a spotlight on how it is driving sustainability in Manchester, the UK and around the world.

The celebrations so far have helped to highlight how its education and research have been pivotal in driving economic growth, transforming health and championing creative excellence.

For the next few weeks, the University will showcase how it is a leader in sustainability – underscoring the vital role it plays in advancing environmental stewardship and fostering a more sustainable future through education, research, and community partnerships.

Manchester Met’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the groundbreaking work being conducted across its campus.

From innovative research in renewable energy and sustainable materials to its leadership in developing green urban spaces, its efforts are making a significant impact both locally and globally. Students and staff are deeply involved in projects that not only tackle the urgent challenges of climate change, but also contribute to creating resilient, sustainable communities.

Liz Price MBE, the University’s Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Sustainability, said: “Sustainable development is a process of addressing social, environmental and economic concerns to create a better world, and as an environmental scientist I was always able to bring sustainability into my work.

“Now we’ve been able to not only focus on the brilliant work we do on campus but also on our academic work in leadership, partnerships and crucially education and research.

“I think the most important thing for me is encouraging everybody to get involved and helping them to see the value that sustainability adds to their everyday lives, and their professional roles, so they are motivated and equipped to be agents of change for sustainability.”
