Over 70 alumni volunteers support student employability in Week 6
Over 1400 students across the University attended a wide range of activities involving alumni volunteers, designed to increase their confidence and employability skills, as well as provide them with invaluable opportunities to network with industry professionals.
In the faculty of Arts and Humanities, over 40 alumni joined us to speak to our students. This included a ‘Coffee with a Graduate’ networking event in the Manchester Fashion Institute, alumni and student networking events in English and Sociology, an alumni panel on entrepreneurship, as well as online alumni panel sessions for students in Design and Manchester School of Architecture. Thanks to our dedicated alumni volunteers who took part in these sessions, students were given the opportunity to build their confidence and networking skills, hear from alumni in a range of industries and gain insight into the wide range of options available to them after their studies.
In the faculty of Science and Engineering, alumni gave their time to panels on the themes of postgraduate study, and unlocking success as a new graduate, benefitting students from all five departments in the faculty. Thanks to our alumni volunteers, students were able to hear about the range of options available to them following their undergraduate studies at Manchester Met and receive advice for beginning their graduate career in Science, Engineering and beyond.
In the faculty of Business and Law we were joined by over 20 alumni who shared their expertise and led inspiring sessions such as Breaking Boundaries: Exploring Careers Outside of Your Field and From Stress to Success: Overcoming Career Anxiety. Highlights included keynote talks from Ashley Giles MBE, CEO of Worcestershire County Cricket Club; Saeed Atcha MBE DL, CEO of Youth Leads UK; Leila Enoki - Student Vice President; Bridget Lea, VP and General Manager for the UK at Snap Inc. and Cody Gapare, Founder of the multi-award-winning C-Lash. Their talks were met with enthusiasm and appreciation, inspiring everyone in attendance.
The next University employability event will be Future Me Week from January 20-24 2025, a campus-wide event supporting students from all faculties in building essential career skills.
