About my career
My first role after graduation was as a Trainee Medical Scientist. Before my recent retirement, I managed a lab within a private hospital, which involved oversight of the scientific, HR and financial areas.
During my studies I worked as a hospital porter, which was one of the most valuable experiences. Working in a hospital environment and meeting lots of people meant I had to make important decisions quickly, which helped set me up for my future career. The skills from my degree programme gave me the scientific knowledge on which to build further.
Since graduating I also obtained an MSc in Medical Science and an MA in Management.
My top tip for students
Try to find work during the holidays in an area where you are interested in working, even if voluntary. This will give you a realistic insight and help with your career decisions.
I’m inspired by
The unconditional care of NHS workers.
Why I love Manchester Met
The great camaraderie among fellow students and staff alike.
