Research outputs
I have experience of stroke rehabilitation, health inequalities and dementia research. I led on the most recent Cochrane review update of interventions for people with spatial inattention after stroke. I was awarded an NIHR Development and Skills Enhancement Award 2020-2022 focused on clinical trials for complex interventions, in which I spent time working with Clinical Trials Units to learn about best practice in trial design and conduct. I led a team commissioned by the Stroke Association to complete a literature review of health inequalities and stroke in 2022. I completed a systematic review of serious digital games to measure cognitive impairment and dementia in 2023 on behalf of Memory Lane Games.
I have worked on an NIHR RfPB project investigating an intervention for people with spatial inattention after stroke, and have experience of using a range of neuropsychological assessments in research and clinical settings. I am involved in studies on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy after stroke, and addressing health inequalities in stroke research.
I completed my PhD Psychology on the impact of dementia on stroke rehabilitation in 2018. This investigated whether people with dementia receive equitable stroke rehabilitation compared to the those without. I used mixed methods - qualitative interviews with staff and an observational multi-site cohort study of patient data therefore have a range of experience of applied healthcare research. My PhD was funded by NIHR CLAHRC Greater Manchester.
I am a qualified Occupational Therapist, and have experience working in both research and healthcare settings with people with stroke and dementia. I am interested in access to healthcare, working with people with cognitive impairment and who lack capacity, health inequalities, clinical decision-making, and clinical trials. I am also keen to broaden my research into areas around disability, neurological conditions and living with long term conditions.
