My profile
Biography
I am a Consultant Neurologist with a clinical interest in movement disorders and related advanced therapies. I am part of the deep brain stimulation team dedicated to the surgical treatments for Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonic syndromes at Walton Centre.
In 2022, The Walton Centre was awarded a machine, by NHS England, to deliver MRI guided focus ultrasound to treat essential tremor and I am part of the team currently delivering this procedure in the North West UK.
I have awarded a PhD in Neuroscience at the University College of London in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Patricia Limousin and Prof. Mark Edwards. It was entitled “The role of sensory afference in Parkinson’s disease”. I have awarded the prestigious 2.5 years NIHR North West Coast Research Scholarship in 2019 followed by the 1-year NIHR North West Coast Advanced Research Scholarship in 2023.
I am the coordinator of research for undergraduate students at The Walton Centre.
I am visiting researcher at Manchester Metropolitan University. As part of Prof Ray’s lab, my current research is focused on the development of neuroimaging and neurophysiological biomarkers for predictive outcome and optimise benefit of deep brain stimulation for movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and tremor). Moreover, new area of my research is focused on MRI guided focus ultrasound thalamotomy for essential tremor. I am also developing jointly with Prof. Ray a study to improve the equality access to functional neurosurgery for patients with movement disorders.
Among my awards are the prestigious International Scholarship Award of the American Academy of Neurology (2015) and the Investigator Award of the European Academy of Neurology (2016). I am a very active member of the European Academy of Neurology and was the Editor of the website in 2022.
I am Member of the Research and Academic Medicine Committee (RAMC) of the Royal College of Physicians. I am currently Associate Clinical Lead for the Research Scholars Programme, NIHR Clinical Research Network North West Coast.
In September 2024, I have been appointed as Regional Clinical Lead of the Parkinson’s Excellence Network for the North West Region by the PD UK.
