Teaching
Why do I teach?
I have been involved in primary education since 2003, having entered teaching after a career as a nurse and midwife, working in both the UK and the developing world for about 22 years. I obtained Qualified Teacher Status via the Graduate Teacher Programme route after completing a degree in Education in 2002. I have a keen interest in primary science and developed and refined many initiatives in schools, including involvement in a research project using drama techniques to teach science with Oxford-Brookes University and Entrust. This led me to take an active interest in action research. I was subsequently awarded a Primary Science Teaching Trust teaching award of Primary Science Teacher of the Year with a Geological Society endorsement, making me a Fellow in 2013. I have since gained Chartered Science Teacher status (2016) and led the school to attaining the Primary Science Quality Mark – Gold Award in 2015. I completed a Master’s degree in Education Leadership at the University of Manchester in August 2017 and now work as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Science Education at the Manchester Metropolitan University.
