Introduction

A postgraduate qualification in law helps you to develop skills in abstract thinking, critical analysis and practical problem solving. At Manchester Law School you’ll have access to facilities such as a 24-hour library, moot courtroom, careers and employability support, guest speakers and professional mentors.

Our postgraduate study opportunities follow four main routes:

  • Law conversion
  • Academic masters
  • Qualifying as a solicitor
  • Qualifying as a barrister

On our courses you will be taught by highly qualified and experienced tutors, including practising solicitors and barristers alongside active researchers and scholars, in a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

We’ve been at the heart of legal education in Manchester for over 50 years. From law conversion and legal masters courses, to professional training for solicitors and barristers, our alumni are based all over the world practising law or working in related fields.

Manchester Met knows what the legal profession requires and is able to cater for it. Through its links with the local legal community it's able to keep itself up to date, which is a real benefit for students.

Supporting your career development

As a Manchester Law School student you’ll have access to bespoke career-enhancing activities. You’ll be invited to attend legal careers talks and workshops which are embedded into your course curriculum. For postgraduate students these might include how to research law firms to apply for and how to apply for pupillage. Our annual Pro Bono and Legal Careers Fair gives you the opportunity to network with law firms, chambers, legal organisations and pro bono partners and can lead to work experience and volunteering opportunities.

Throughout your studies you’ll also be able to pre-book appointments with our law careers consultant as well as advisors from our dedicated faculty careers service. We’ll keep you up to date with the latest activities and opportunities available to you through special alerts and bulletins.

Franklin
I chose Manchester Met because, in addition to the quality of academic delivery, the university gives students the opportunity to choose a specialist route for the LLM. I opted for international human rights law, which is an area of law I’m interested in.

Casey
I decided to continue my studies at Manchester Met to progress to the next stage of becoming a qualified solicitor. The course tutors are extremely knowledgeable and often had interesting stories from their practise which helped us to understand how our learning related to practise.
