Grants and allowances

Depending on your circumstances, you might be eligible for government grants and allowances.

Disabled students allowance

If you have a disability or specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, you can apply for a disabled students’ allowance.

Bursaries

A bursary or grant is money given to help pay tuition fees or living costs while you study. You won’t have to repay it, unlike a loan.

Postgraduate bursaries tend to only be available if you’re studying to enter professions such as teaching, healthcare and social work.

Social work bursary

If you’re studying a full-time postgraduate social work course, you can apply for a bursary to help with your living costs and tuition fees.

The bursary includes a basic grant for everyone, topped up by a means-tested payment.

If you’re eligible you’ll also get money towards your tuition fees each academic year.
