My profile
Biography
I am a work and employment scholar, focusing on the work-life interface, wellbeing at work and reproductive health. Specific topics include the experiences and needs of solo-living staff; those on complex fertility journeys (including fertility treatment, pregnancy loss and childlessness); menstruation and menstrual health; maternity management; perinatal (pregnancy and post-birth) mental health; and mental health more broadly. Prior to transitioning to academia, I worked in operational Human Resource Management roles in the Construction, Hospitality and Retail Sectors. I am a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and was active at the national level for over a decade as part of the L7 national examination marking/moderation teams.
I am the lead editor of the 2024 book Work-Life Inclusion: Broadening perspectives across the life course (Emerald Publishing). The work-life inclusion concept is about shining a light on under-explored work-life interface issues, tackling taboo topics and ‘absent narratives’ in the workplace.
I am passionate about knowledge exchange and have been working with a number of organisations to make a difference on work and working lives, including the CIPD, national charities, CICs and campaign groups, and large employers. I have had the huge honour of speaking at leading industry conferences, and participating in high-profile activities in connection with my research on women’s health in the workplace: A business roundtable in the House of Lords (perinatal mental health at work); a roundtable at 10 Downing Street (menopause in the workplace) and presenting our Workplace Fertility Campaign Group White Paper in Parliament.
I am a passionate advocate for awareness raising around perinatal mental health (in the workplace and beyond) and have the huge honour of being an official Ambassador for the Maternal Mental Health Alliance
My research has been featured in a range of media and trade press outputs, including the BBC, the Wall Street Journal, The Conversation, People Management magazine, and Policing Insight.
