Research: Women’s health strategy in healthcare
Understanding women’s reproductive health in healthcare employment to support the Well Women Strategy of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.
Summary
Research summary
- 2022 – 2023
The lead researcher was contacted by the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust at an early stage in the development of their women’s health strategy, which formed part of wider wellbeing provisions.
Primary areas of interest were the employee’s experience of endometriosis, fertility treatment, pregnancy loss and menopause.
In partnership with the NCA, the research team designed two bespoke surveys to assess employee attitudes to:
- women’s health issues in the workplace
- lived experience around different health issues
- line manager perceptions and experiences
The findings informed a range of policy and practice developments in the trust, and the sharing of learning more broadly, including in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
