In February 2024, degree apprenticeships at Manchester Met were shortlisted for four categories in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2024. The Student Nursing Times Awards, which take place on 26 April 2024, bring together the nursing and midwifery community to shine a light on the brightest talent making their way into the profession.

Two Manchester Met apprentices have been shortlisted for awards including Amy Barrett from Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust who has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability category, and Rachel Donnelly from Stockport NHS Foundation Trust who was shortlisted in the Learner of the Year (post-registration) School Nurse award.

Manchester Met’s apprenticeships unit has also been shortlisted for the coveted Nursing Apprenticeship Provider of the Year award, which the University won in 2023, as well as the Teaching Innovation of the Year award for using the University’s virtual reality cave to deliver a real-life emergency department (ED) scenario.

The degree apprenticeships unit is also delighted to have received Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) approval for it’s Specialist Community Public Health Nurse PGDip apprenticeship. This Level 7 apprenticeship is an innovative blend of higher education and work-based learning, aimed at developing employees into competent and confident specialist public health nurses. The programme was designed, developed and delivered to recognise the core values of the NHS and the required standards of our accrediting body the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Manchester Met is currently one of the largest university trainers of nursing and health professionals in the north west of England.
