Manchester Metropolitan wins ‘Most Improved in the UK’ award in QS rankings

Manchester Metropolitan has won the award for ‘Most Improved in the United Kingdom’ in the 2025QS World University Rankings.

The results, which have been published today, show that the University has risen from 801-1000 in 2020 to 601-610 in 2025 - an improvement of at least 190 places. Manchester Met is now ranked as #57 in the UK.

The rankings, which emphasise academic and employer reputations, also rate universities’ commitment to sustainability and global research collaboration.  They feature over 1,500 institutions across 104 locations.

Manchester Met has made significant progress across the three internationalisation metrics: 

  • international research network – now ranked 143rd in the world 

  • international student population – now ranked 373rd in the world  

  • international faculty population – now ranked 405th in the world 

The University performed strongly in the sustainability metric and is now ranked 156th in the world.  

Its academic reputation across the five year period has also improved, as measured by a survey of academics from across the world. 

This year’s QS World University Rankings is the largest, with 5,663 institutions evaluated and 1,503 results published.
