Manchester Met Champions Creative Excellence as part of 200th anniversary

Manchester Metropolitan University is continuing its 200^th anniversary celebrations with a spotlight on how it Champions Creative Excellence.

As part of the 200th anniversary celebrations, the University has already shared how its excellent education and research drives economic growth and transforms health.

This week marks the start of the campaign to highlight how it ‘Champions Creative Excellence’ – how the University is harnessing imagination to drive innovation in creative practice, education and research.

There is so much to celebrate in this area and the campaign period includes the incredible annual degree shows from the School of Art and Fashion Institute students.

The campaign period also sees the historic Grosvenor West building, the original School of Art, reopen after a project to return it to its former glory.

The campaign starts with a thought-provoking film from alumnus and Emmy award-winner Chris Sayer and hearing the thoughts of inspirational alumnus and internationally renowned artist and sculptor Ryan Gander. You can also read about alumnus and innovative landscape architect James Corner and Tony award-winning scriptwriter Professor Simon Stephens.

During the campaign we’ll also hear from University professor and award-winning textile artist Alice Kettle on creativity, and research stories such as how robotics is being used to improve creative processes in the fashion world.

And from renowned and award-winning writers and poets like former Poet Laureate Professor Dame Carol Ann Duffy who provide an inspirational education to students in the Manchester Writing School, to hugely successful Manchester School of Theatre alumni like Steve Coogan and John Bradley, showcasing how the creative industries can change lives.

With the University’s Manchester School of Architecture ranked 5th in the world in the latest QS World Rankings and its Art and Design courses regularly ranked among the best in the UK we know Manchester Met can justifiably say it is a champion of creative excellence.
