Manchester Met named University of the Year at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards
Manchester Met has been named University of the Year at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2022.
The Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the talent and achievement of all apprentices and the belief in the power of equality and diversity of the employers and training providers who support them.
As a leading provider of degree apprenticeships since 2015, working with more than 540 employer partners and with more than 2,400 apprentices on programme, the University offers 18 courses in a range of skills shortage areas from health to digital and leadership to science, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Multicultural Awards’ judges praised the University’s commitment to equality and diversity at every stage of the apprentice journey, from recruitment to the classroom experience and from support in the workplace to graduate success. They also cited the tailored approach to delivering apprenticeships as something which has helped the University achieve above and beyond the national average for enrolments, completions and learner satisfaction.
Liz Gorb, Apprenticeship Director at Manchester Met, said: “We are incredibly proud of our pioneering work and are pleased to be recognised for our inclusive and life-changing programmes. We will build on the success of this recognition to ensure that we continue to move forward in our inclusivity and diversity agenda.”
Two of the University’s apprentices also received awards after they were Highly Commended for their categories.
Nilma Solanki, a Digital and Technology Solutions apprentice graduate, works at Pennine Events and was Highly Commended for the Creative, Media and Marketing category. Commenting on winning the award, she said: “It is such an achievement and I’m proud of myself for the hard work, dedication, and resilience I’ve shown, especially through the pandemic years. I’m excited to see what the future holds for me and look forward to inspiring the next generation to learn, earn, and gain invaluable work and life experience through apprenticeships.”
Mohammed Khamal Miah, a Chartered Manager Fast-Track degree apprentice, works at IBM and was Highly Commended for the Management, Legal and Professional Services category. He said: “This award means a lot to me as it celebrates my achievements as an apprentice and brings a sense of inclusion and ongoing support to diverse, multicultural talent such as myself.”
The University is committed to promoting equality and diversity amongst underrepresented groups and works closely with employer partners so that more people can access the opportunities available.
Last year the University published its Force for Change report that outlines how degree apprenticeships are helping to improve social mobility and increase opportunities for learners from diverse backgrounds.
