Using Images
Images are subject to copyright.
This includes photographs and illustrations taken from books and journals as well as images available online.
It is important when using images to give full attribution to the original source.

Finding Images
Images are available in many of the Library’s books and journals. You can use Library Search to locate these resources.
However, a number of search engines are available that can locate different types of images. These include:
- Google image search
- Europeana - millions of images, films and archival material from galleries, museums, archives from across Europe.
- Flickr: The Commons - project to make photographs available online from the archives of cultural institutions around the world
- Pixabay - all images on the site are available and free to reuse without attribution
- TinEye - reverse search engine. You can upload an image to find information on where that image has been used and

- Cities and Buildings Database - over 5,000 images of buildings and cities. Searchable by building, style, location, architect, etc.
- Historic England - photographic library of England’s historic buildings
- RIBApix - RIBA Architecture image library

- Berg Fashion Library - over 13,000 fashion images
- Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute - over 30,000 images from the museum’s fashion collection
- V&A Textiles, Costume and Fashion Images
- Vogue Archive - every issue of US Vogue from 1892 onwards

Health & Science
- Public Health Image Library - a catalogue of online images from the Center for Disease Control
- Science Museum - 350,000 online images from their collection
- Wellcome Collection - thousands of images covering all aspects of science and medicine

Manchester Images
- Manchester Metropolitan University Visual Resources Centre Images - provides access to the image collections of the Visual Resources Centre at the Manchester School of Art. Follow the Flickr link to access the Visual Resources Centre’s images of Manchester, the Manchester Metropolitan University and the Manchester School of Art
