Social work student testimonial
“I applied to the course because the content looked engaging and has simulation facilities that are safe spaces for practice. I particularly enjoyed the lived experience speakers and working with actors in the flat.”

‘The flat’
A specialist space that represents a community flat. This is where practical simulations allow you to develop your skills as a social worker.
Next door is a lecture theatre where you can see into ‘the flat’ through a one-way mirror. This allows you to observe mock scenarios and analyse and reflect on the outcomes. You’ll learn the skills you’ll need to bring complex situations to positive resolutions.
Simulations can include:
- Helping women experiencing homelessness.
- Dealing with challenging domestic behaviour.
- Assisting a service user with mental health challenges.
The CAVE
The CAVE is an interactive room that can replicate any physical environment virtually. Using 360-degree sight and sound, the CAVE can support learning by simulating everyday environments you might encounter in your future career as a social worker.
Scenario-based learning can include:
- Working in a hospital within a multi-disciplinary team
- Interacting with service users in a variety of environments such as home, schools, hospitals and court
You can also take a further leap into the digital world, utilising our virtual reality equipment, HTC Vive and ClassVR headsets creating a fully immersive learning experience.
