Biography

Tom is a Clinical Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), where his role involves research, clinical work and teaching on the University’s physiotherapy and sports medicine programmes.

Tom has expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and is an experienced clinical researcher. He has an extensive track record of published research papers, with many appearing in world leading sports and exercise medicine journals. His work so far has focussed on medical and physical performance testing, injury prediction, diagnostic and prognostic research, and epidemiology.

Tom continues to work clinically at MMU’s Manchester Movement Unit, helping people to manage all types of musculoskeletal problems, although his special interest is in the rehabilitation of lower limb and sports injuries. He has extensive experience working with elite and professional athletes, and before joining MMU, he was a senior physiotherapist at Manchester United Football Club for nearly 16 years. As well as working in sport, Tom has gained a wealth of experience in a variety of NHS physiotherapy roles over a nine year period.
