A level results day 2024

We are now closed for Clearing 2024. If you are looking for a course starting in September 2025, please visit our subject pages.

Make sure you know what to expect if you think you’ll go through Clearing.

These handy tips will give you a head start with your preparations.

Make a shortlist of possible alternative courses and check if they’re available through Clearing. When you are checking, make sure your A-level results meet the eligibility criteria. Then start working through your list by contacting each university in order of preference.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Will I get through to the Clearing team right away?

As one of the biggest UK universities, we’re always busy on A-level results day. We have more than 80 staff ready to take your call and the processes in place to make sure we can speak to everybody.

You might need to wait up to 15 minutes on hold to get through.

  • Can I email or use social media instead of calling?

We think it’s important to speak in person, so we can talk through your options in detail. That’s why we don’t have a Clearing chatbot or accept Clearing enquiries by email.

You can only apply for courses through Clearing by calling our dedicated hotline. This gives you the best chance of securing a place on the right course for you.

Remember, you must make the call yourself – we can’t speak to anyone on your behalf.

  • What can I do to prepare for the call?

Take some time to do your research before you call – preferably before A-level results day.

Search our website for courses that interest you, and write a shortlist, making a note of the full course title and UCAS code to speed up the process.

Check the entry requirements before making the call. Although there is sometimes some wiggle room, requirements don’t often change much in Clearing. Only go for realistic options considering your results.

Remember that Clearing courses can fill up quickly. Just before you call, check online to see if your chosen course is still available.

  • What will happen on the call?

We’ll talk you through available course options based on your preferences and your grades.

If you meet the entry requirements and your chosen course is available, we should be able to make you a provisional offer. We’ll then arrange a follow up call with a member of the teaching staff from your chosen course. They can give you detailed information about the course to help you decide if it’s definitely right for you. Don’t forget to take notes to help you with decision making.

For some of our courses, you’ll need to do an online interview or submit a portfolio. You’ll get a call to explain the process, so you know what’s involved.

  • What happens next?

f we make you a provisional offer on the phone, you’ll get an email confirmation. This will tell you how to accept the offer and confirm your place with us.

You’ll need to refer yourself to us through UCAS Hub. We may need evidence of your qualifications, or request other documents. All this will be in the email.

We recommend you attend one of our Clearing Visit Days to get additional information about your course, and life at Manchester Met. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions of staff and current students and see our campus.

  • How much time do I have to get a place through Clearing at Manchester Met?

Don’t panic. Take a bit of time to do your research and make sure you get all your questions answered so you can feel confident in your choices. You don’t want to rush into anything – this is a big decision.

However, Clearing time is limited. The beginning of term is not far away and lots of courses fill up quickly. Once you have all the information you need, don’t delay – get in touch and start looking forward to September.
