About my career

My first job after leaving Manchester Met was as a product development lead with Stuncroft India Private Ltd. Studying International Fashion Marketing has helped me stand out in the fashion industry, which is evolving very fast in India, and value the international perspective and context that I could bring to it. My experience at university exposed me to a diverse mix of peers, which helped me develop an understanding of various cultures and gave me a strong global alumni network. Marketing was my favourite subject: I loved the way the course was designed using case studies.

I am currently the Head of Buying at Men’s Calvin Klein & Tommy Hilfiger India. In my role, my responsibilities include:

  • heading a buying portfolio for $20 million
  • focus towards aggressive top-line growth with challenging margin and sell through deliverables
  • budgeting and OTB management
  • range selection in sync with International trends and domestic requirements
  • aligning with global design teams to localize the product configuration for Indian luxury consumers
  • inventory Management for freshness by increasing stock turns, restricting dormancy and optimize core/fashion business composition
  • managing a team of 6 across functions
  • travel to Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong for seasonal buys

My top tip for students

Try to get a deep understanding of industry basics and working with diverse cultures. I think it is extremely important for students to undertake placements or internships during their time at university. It’s important to explore the internship programs with organisations during your last semester.
