About me

About my career

Throughout my career as an English teacher in Dubai, I sought to develop my teaching strategies and offer interesting lessons in my classes. Meanwhile, I always wanted to attain a master’s degree, but the challenge was to find a flexible program that would fit my busy schedule and is UK based. The MSc Educational Leadership and Management programme at Manchester Met was designed for people like me in Dubai, who were looking for a western education with a practical application in their field.

Since studying at Manchester Metropolitan, my entire perspective of education has changed. I developed myself not just as an educator but as a lifelong learner, and the sky was the limit.

One of the aspects that has shaped my career in higher education was learning about research methods and how to ask proper research questions. University lecturers made the journey look easy and relevant to my field. They listened with care to my concerns and offered guidance, which helped me grow my self-confidence, discover my hidden abilities and see myself as a researcher.

Studying remotely using technology helped with flexibility, efficiency in writing my assignments and conducting action research at my workplace. My tutors were there for me whenever I had a question or needed their feedback on my first drafts. Furthermore, I presented my action research twice at the educational organisation that I worked for in Dubai, so my research findings exceeded my classroom to include discussing and evaluating real-life scenarios in the entire school teaching teams.

After acquiring my master’s degree, I pursued my career in higher education and worked as a lecturer at a university in Dubai.

Currently, I am a college professor in Canada, teaching academic writing and communication skills. I am proud to say that Manchester Met will continue to be my second home where I would love to study another postgraduate program one day.

My top tip for students

Focusing on getting postgraduate education will open new horizons for you and will allow you to develop yourself as a researcher. Resilience and consistency are two essential game-changers in our lives, so continue to practice them to reach your goals.

Why I love Manchester Met

Manchester Met offers interesting and relevant coursework that engages learners and suits their professional needs. The course design facilitated my distant learning experience and made it a rich one. I had friendly lecturers, such as Professor Raymond Moorcroft, who relentlessly guided me in my learning journey and taught me how to ask the right research questions and apply that knowledge at my workplace.
