About my career
I decided to study at Manchester Met because the Graduate Diploma in English and Hong Kong Law is an excellent course towards the full-time PCLL and legal practice and greatly helped me in developing my interest in law. I chose this course after extensive research, and I believe that the CPE in England, Wales and Hong Kong was a tailor-made course designed for those students who wanted to excel in the legal field in Hong Kong and qualify for the PCLL without being subject to conversion examinations. I also had the opportunity to have friends and colleagues who studied the CPE, meaning I got first-hand information about the course and study life. I decided that I could not imagine a better course for my future than the CPE.
My first job after joining the CPE in England, Wales and Hong Kong was as a Litigation Paralegal (civil and criminal), and I am now a Trainee Solicitor. I was admitted to the HKU full-time PCLL programme after graduating from the CPE in England, Wales and Hong Kong with an LLB (Hons). Manchester Met helped me develop critical skills that I have used a lot throughout my career, especially legal research, legal writing, document review and Westlaw, to name a few. Since graduating, I’ve also sought further qualifications through the HKU PCLL and CPD courses.
My top tip for students
The CPE in England, Wales and Hong Kong and LLB (Hons) is an excellent path for anyone interested in progressing in the legal field in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. It has allowed me to become one of the first Trainee Solicitors in Hong Kong of Pakistani origin who studied in this jurisdiction and qualified from one of the most prestigious HKU, full-time PCLL.
I’m inspired by
During my studies on these courses, Mr Jeffrey Hill, a criminal law lecturer, inspired me. I still cannot forget about one of the lectures regarding wounding that he taught with so much passion that it led me to have goosebumps. I would also like to thank the late Counsel Mr Alexander King before starting my journey of legal studies, Professor Simon Young, Dean of HKU research, while studying the CPE and LLB (Hons), family, friends and classmates who inspired me to be a part of this legal field family.
Why I love Manchester Met
I loved everything about my CPE and LLB (Hons). It was an amazing, well-organised course with well-respected lecturers from the legal profession.
