University was the first point I gained a deeper understanding of the various aspects of accounting and was given the breadth of opportunities it provides. I knew I was on the career path I wanted.

My university experience has taught me not to focus too much on theoretical material and instead to concentrate on understanding the practical side. Every time I get the chance to encounter a real-life problem where I can implement what I have learned, I do so.

Students must embrace all the resources and expertise available to them and immerse themselves into the university experience. Students should seek to enhance their professional and social connections during their time at university.

My biggest achievement is getting to a position where I can play a part in influencing policy and actions that could enhance the life opportunities of our students, particularly marginalised students.

My course is very interactive and the academics encourage us to take part in group activities, which helps to develop our group work skills. I’ve particularly enjoyed learning about wealth management, which I find fascinating.

One of the roles I enjoy most is working with my colleagues to help them make the most of digital teaching tools and resources to support our students.

I feel that success in higher education is measured by the end product. When students get in touch to tell me they have achieved the job or role they wanted, that is the greatest achievement.

Landing a place on the graduate scheme felt like a huge achievement as it meant I would get the opportunity to explore a new career. I’m also involved in the diversity and inclusion committees at my workplace.

Take every opportunity, work hard and make the most of your time. Every experience counts and many skills are transferable, in particular perseverance, problem solving and teamwork.
