Business Student Conference
The Business Student Conference was a Scholarship of Learning and Teaching research project funded by the University Teaching Academy, exploring the effectiveness of the conference format in relation to the enhancement of student experience and perceived benefit to study and employability. The conference was an opportunity to promote students’ academic projects, develop their confidence and self-belief. The day featured student academic work presentations, Young Enterprise trading stalls, inspirational speakers, skills workshops and networking opportunities with business professionals.

Student Academic Innovation Journal
Student Academic Innovation Journal was a Scholarship of Learning and Teaching research project funded by the University Teaching Academy. The project aimed at promoting innovation and collaborative working, by setting up a journal for students to showcase academic work in a formal journal and engage students in the writing and editorial process and considering publishing their work in the future. The project linked to student progression, confidence and success, where student progression is not just around academic attainment, but also about forging relationships, building their self-efficacy through being part of the team and gaining skills necessary for the work environment. The journal involved students of any abilities offering a supportive environment to less confident students through reading and writing retreats. Retreats offered dedicated writing time where students could progress their writing projects, get on with assignments or engage with an academic article in a supportive, non-surveillance environment. This proactive approach to study skills can contribute to the enhancement of skills, sense of belonging and links to academic engagement and progression.

I Love Learning - Research Project
‘I Love Learning’ was a collaborative Scholarship of Learning and Teaching research project funded by Manchester Metropolitan University’s Teaching Academy. The project explored how the use of creative techniques in learning support and teaching can enhance the motivation and engagement of students. The project used action research methodology, particularly extended ways of knowing and cycles of action and reflection. Through cooperative inquiries, the project engaged students and staff across different faculties at Manchester Metropolitan University, with the discussion about the purpose of creativity within teaching and learning and led to enhancement of practice. This project has helped me to use an active approach to tackle issues arising within student experience and involves students in tackling such problems with creative initiatives, which do not just solve an issue, but also further enhance the student experience.
