David Taylor

My profile

Biography

I am Visiting Professor at Christ University in Bengaluru, India.

I have worked in Manchester Metropolitan University since 1995. Having completed my teaching training within the then Department of Business Studies. I continued as an Associate Lecturer until 2000 where I secured a full-time Senior Lecturer position at the University of Huddersfield. I continued to work on projects at Manchester Met, mainly with the New Entrepreneur Scholarship Scheme, before returning full-time to Manchester Met in 2001 as a Senior Lecturer in Enterprise and Innovation in the Department of Business Studies. I have since progressed through a number of leadership roles before attaining my Principal Lecturer post in 2010 in the Department of Strategy, Enterprise and International Business. Most recently I held the post of Education Lead within the Department of Strategy, Enterprise and Sustainability (SES) before taking on my most recent challenges of leading both the Enterprise Subject Group with the SES department and student enterprise across the Faculty of Business and Law. I designed and launched our Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) degrees - BA (Hons) Business Management Professional and BA (Hons) Business Management Professional Executive. I led the department’s 2019 periodic reviews for both UG and PG creating, with colleagues, a suite of programmes and units attractive to home and international students. I am a Fellow of the HEA and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs.

Key Themes are indentified below:-

Entrepreneurship Education

I have been involved in the development and delivery of a number of enterprise, entrepreneurship and consultancy units and programmes that have impacted on the employability and start-up aspirations of thousands of students. Including the award winning ‘Ideas, Creativity and Entrepreneurship’ .

This work was recognised in 2009 with the winning of the National Educator Award with colleagues Fernando Lourenco and Anthony Taylor. The award, by BMAF, NCGE and EEUK at the first annual enterprise educators awards, was in recognition of and reward for excellence within enterprise education. Announced at the International Entrepreneurship Educators Conference (IEEC) in Edinburgh. https://neea.org.uk/previous-awards/2009-awards.

In November 2016 I was recognised as an individual who is an exemplar in the world of enterprise and enterprise support and awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs. https://campus.ioee.uk/ioee-honorary-fellowships-awarded-at-celebrating-enterprise-ceremony/

I have led the development of a new MSc Entrepreneurship which will use problem-based and enquiry-based learning and be targetted at the International market. Launching September 2020.

I lead both the Enterprise Subject Group and Student Enterprise in the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Met.

International and Professional Educator

I was recently appointed as Faculty Lead for India, having had over 15 years of recruitment experience in the India market. I have taught undergraduate, postgraduate, post experience and professional courses, in diverse cultures [UK, Greece, Lithuainia, India, Sri Lanka, France, and Croatia]. I launched  what is now the most successful Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship - BA (Hons) Business Management Professional and it’s sister top-up degree - BA (Hons) Business Management Professional Executive. I now specialise in supporting/developing live/client-based projects for business start-up and consultancy for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students. I use entrepreneurship start-up workshops to promote the Manchester Met brand and NCUK to recruit international students from India. Most recently. I have, with colleagues, developed three Masters degrees (MSc Management, MSc Management and Consultancy and MSc Entrepreneurship) primarily for a range of international markets in the Middle-East and South/South-East Asia.
