Studying at Manchester Met

What to expect during your studies

Life at university is a mixture of classes, lectures, tutor meetings, group work, and independent study – not to mention your social life or hobbies.

There’s lots to consider, but we’re here to make sure you get the best study experience possible.

We aim to shape your future beyond your university education. During the third term, we provide all students with the opportunity to pursue additional online learning focused on a range of themes beyond your subject area.

Many of our courses include placements and opportunities to travel the world. You could spend up to a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities, or gain international experience that could make a big difference to your future career plans.

From your lecturers, technicians, and tutors, to the student advisors you can find at our friendly student hubs, there’s a whole team waiting to help you achieve your ambitions.

Rise with Manchester Met

Rise is an opportunity for every student to add bespoke experiences and expertise to their degree.

We offer a mix of opportunities throughout the year, with more focused activity after the exam period in May (our ‘third term’).

As well as developing new skills outside of your subject area to boost your employability, you could even gain extra credits that improve your degree classification.

You can earn Rise points for completing a portfolio through:

  • online intensives – flexible, short courses which are completed at your own pace
  • project challenges– you’ll respond to problems posed by advocates from the city
  • events– one-off opportunities to attend workshops or masterclasses
  • activities– intensive opportunities to learn a language, skill or even attend a placement or international exchange
Within seconds of being in the University, I felt comfortable. I thought, this is a place I could study for the next three years. The staff, the buildings, and the resources amazed me.
