Manchester Met has one of the biggest student populations in the UK - more than 43,000.

This means we have more tuition fee income to invest in improving our services than most other universities.

When you add income from the other sources - such as grants from the government and funding bodies, revenue from our commercial services, and donations - we have more than £400 million to spend each year.

But where does it go?

  • Teaching and research (36%) - recruiting, retaining and equipping academics who are both excellent teachers and able to bring cutting-edge practice and research into your classrooms and labs.
  • Study resources (24%) - providing essential study resources such as the library (open 24/7 in term-time), fast and flexible IT services, and new learning and teaching technology.
  • Student support (10%) - helping you get the most your time at Manchester Met, whether that’s supporting your wellbeing, giving you a voice through the Students’ Union or getting active with the University’s sports clubs. Our support continues after you graduate, with careers and financial advice available to alumni.
  • Campus services (17%) - making our campus a pleasant, welcoming and safe place for everyone. We work really hard to be environmentally sustainable and are very proud of our position as one of the greenest universities in the UK.
  • Day-to-day (9%) - ensuring everything from admissions to graduation runs smoothly, including all the facilities you use, your assessments and certificates and transcripts.

Focusing on our long-term sustainability, we also put money into improvements to campus, upgrading teaching spaces and emerging areas of study. This includes investing £378.8 million in our exciting new School of Digital Arts, Institute of Sport and Arts and Humanities building.
