About the award
£625 cash bursary for a full-time student enrolling on a PGCE course.
- Value: £625 cash bursary.
- Study level: Postgraduate new, full-time students only.
- Eligible courses: All full-time PGCE courses
- Applications: You can only apply for this scholarship if we’ve offered you a place at Manchester Met. If you will receive a teacher training bursary, you cannot apply.
You must apply for the scholarship by 30 September 2024.
Aim of the scholarship
This scholarship is supported by Emeritus Professor Gajendra Verma of The University of Manchester. It was established in recognition of Dr Kanka Mallick’s commitment to improving inclusivity by offering much-needed financial assistance to PCGE students.
Check if you can apply
To apply, you must:
- hold a firm offer to study a new full-time PGCE course in 2024/25 (excluding distance learning)
- pay for your course yourself, including through a student loan or a payment from your parents. Your course fees must not be paid by a business, charity or other organisation. You must not be getting a teacher training bursary.
- be a UK student (English, Scottish, Welsh, or Northern Irish) and have a UK Student Support Number
- prove your gross income was £25,000 or less in the previous financial year. We’ll accept:
- P60s
- Student Finance Entitlement Letters
- a self-employment tax return
- a Pay As You Earn tax summary

How to apply
You’ll need to:
- complete the application form. Applications open on 1 January 2024.
- Upload evidence of your household income to your application form.
You must apply by 30 September 2024. We will not consider late applications.
