About the Buffini Chao scholarship

Funding of up to £10,000 for undergraduate actors with Black, Asian or ethnic minority heritage. Check if you’re eligible, and how to apply.

  • Value: £3,000 in years one and two, and £4,000 in your final year.
  • Study level: Undergraduate — new, full-time students in their first year only.
  • Eligible courses: BA(Hons) Acting

You can only apply for this scholarship if we’ve offered you a place at Manchester Met.

Deadlines for applying: 

  • applications open 1st January 2025

If we offer you a place, you must apply for the scholarship by 31 August 2025.

Aim of the scholarship

Supported by donations from the Buffini Chao Foundation, the Buffini Chao Foundation Elevate Acting Scholarship aims to support actors from low-income backgrounds, increasing representation and removing financial barriers to accessing higher education. 

Check if you can apply

To apply, you must: 

  • be from a Black, Asian or ethnic minority background.
  • hold a firm offer to study a new full-time BA(Hons) Acting degree in 2025/26, excluding foundation year and distance learning.
  • have a household income of £25,000 or less. We’ll check this against your Student Finance application. Please contact us if you will not be applying to Student Finance for a maintenance loan. 
  • be a UK student: English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish, paying fees of £9,250, and have a UK Student Support Number.
  • pay for your course yourself, including through a student loan or a payment from your parents. Your course fees must not be paid by a business, charity or other organisation.

If we offer you a place, you must apply for the scholarship by 31 August 2025. We will not consider late applications.
