Undergraduate scholarship

Funding of up to £18,000 will be awarded to one full-time BA Textiles in Practice student

  • Value: £6,000 a year for up to three years
  • Study level: Undergraduate new, full-time students in their first year only

You can only apply for this scholarship if we’ve offered you a place at Manchester Met. 

Deadlines for applying:  

  • If we offer you a place, you must apply for the scholarship by 31 August 2025. 

Postgraduate scholarship

Funding of up to £10,000 will be awarded to one full-time MA Textiles student.

  • Value: Awarded against tuition fees for one year (maximum of £10,000)
  • Study level: Postgraduate new, full-time students only

You can only apply for this scholarship if we’ve offered you a place at Manchester Met. 

You must apply for the scholarship by 31 May 2025.

Aim of the scholarship

The scholarship is a joint gift in memory of Bernard and Frieda Clowes, who both had long and successful careers in the Manchester textiles design industry. It aims to support undergraduate and postgraduate students on textiles courses.

Undergraduate

To apply you must:

  • hold a firm offer to study a new full-time BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice course in 2025 (excluding foundation year and distance learning)
  • be a UK student (English, Scottish, Welsh, or Northern Irish) paying fees of £9,250 and have a UK Student Support Number
  • pay for your course yourself, including through a student loan or a payment from your parents. Your course fees must not be paid by a business, charity or other organisation 
  • have a household income of £25,000 or less. We’ll check this against your Student Finance application. Please contact us if you will not be applying to Student Finance for a maintenance loan. 

Postgraduate

To apply you must:

  • hold a firm offer to study a new full-time MA Textiles course in 2025 (excluding distance learning)
  • be a UK student (English, Scottish, Welsh, or Northern Irish) and have a UK Student Support Number
  • pay for your course yourself, including through a student loan or a payment from your parents. Your course fees must not be paid by a business, charity or other organisation
  • prove your gross income was £25,000 or less in the previous financial year. We’ll accept:
    • P60s 
    • Student Finance Entitlement Letters 
    • A self-employment tax return

Before you apply, read our application advice.

You’ll need to: 

  • complete the application form. Applications open on 1 January 2025
  • add a link to your digital portfolio. You can use your admissions portfolio, but it’s a good idea to update it with your latest work.
  • postgraduate applicants will need to upload financial evidence for the 2023/24 tax year.

Apply for the scholarship by the deadline. We will not consider late applications.  

If we get a lot of applications, we may ask you to do an interview.
