Application advice

Our donor-funded scholarships aim to increase representation, diversity, and academic equality. We look for students who will positively contribute to our community.

Before you apply

Make sure you’re eligible

Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria which have been agreed with the donor. If you apply for a scholarship and do not meet the eligibility criteria, we cannot consider your application.

Many of our scholarships also have household income requirements:

  • Undergraduate September 2025 entry: Student Finance will be assessed based on your household income during the 2023/24 tax year. You may need to ask your parents if your household income is below the scholarship threshold.
  • Postgraduate September 2025 entry: You will need to provide evidence of your own income during the previous tax year.

Have your student ID number ready

Your Manchester Met student ID number is on your offer letter or confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS). This 8-digit number helps us connect your scholarship application to your course application. If you’ve received an offer but cannot find your student ID number, contact our Admissions team.

Apply for multiple scholarships

You can apply for any scholarship you meet the eligibility criteria for. We will award you only one scholarship. When making multiple applications, make sure you adjust your application to suit each scholarship.

Write the best application

Use the word count

Some questions will limit the length of your answer. If you see a maximum word count, it’s a guide to how much the panel expects you to write. Aim to use at least 80% of the word limit to make the most of your application.

Make your application stand out

The application form is an opportunity to sell yourself. Be personal – our panels want to know why you would be a fantastic addition to our scholar community and a great ambassador for the University. Mention your academic or workplace achievements, extracurricular activities, hobbies, clubs, or community work.

Check your spelling

Write your application in Microsoft Word or similar software. You can use the programme to check your word count, spelling and grammar before pasting the information into the application form. Tools such as Grammarly or Microsoft Read Aloud can also make it easier to spot errors.

AI can be helpful, when used right

AI – artificial intelligence – can also help with spelling, grammar, punctuation and formatting. But it is not foolproof. Check AI-generated answers carefully. If you are using it, helpful prompts might include:

  • Correct the spelling, grammar and punctuation in this statement
  • Show me how to write this statement more formally
