METU aims to achieve excellence in research, education and public service by nurturing creative and critical thinking, innovation and leadership.
Formed in the 1950s, its original goal was train natural and social scientists, and it helped develop these subjects in Turkey. In 1963, it moved to the current location, creating the country’s first university campus.
Today, there are a total of 41 undergraduate programs in five faculties, all of which teach in English.
Around 28,000 students attend the university each year - with more than 120,000 alumni worldwide.
