This module in injection skills is designed to develop cognitive and psychomotor skills essential to the advancement of the clinician specialising in injection treatments for musculoskeletal lesions. The module aims to develop the knowledge of the clinician in the theory, application, and practice of injection treatments in musculoskeletal disorders. It further aims to enhance constant critical reasoning and evaluation in the application of injection skills.

This course is intended forPhysiotherapists who are HCPC-registered or Doctors who are GMC-registered.

Unit content includes
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

HCPC/GMC registration. This module is only open to those who can demonstrate that medical supervision is in place for the inter-unit course work.
Applicants must have:
Health Care Professions Council [HCPC] or General Medical Council [GMC] registration. The unit is designed for Physiotherapists and Doctors. Currently, applicants who are a Nurse (registered with the NMC for example) or a Physician Associate are not eligible.
At least 4 years of post-qualification experience in their chosen profession.
Successful completion of post-graduate level training (a unit or module) in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal lesions in musculoskeletal medicine in the upper and lower quadrant. This training does not have to have been completed at Manchester Metropolitan University. Applicants who do not have Master-level learning in these areas but have extensive clinical experience and evidence of Continuing Professional Development may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Eligibility will be assessed by the unit lead.
Access to a Doctor or Physiotherapist, who will supervise the student to complete at least 10 injections in clinical practice. The supervisor would need to meet the following criteria.
EITHER Doctor Supervision
OR Physiotherapist Supervision
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ musculoskeletal injection experience.
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ post qualification injection experience evidenced by injection diploma certification.
Must be a medical practitioner, registered in the UK with the General Medical Council.
Must be CSP and HPC registered and practicing in the UK.
Must be undertaking a minimum of 50 injections annually.
Must be undertaking a minimum of 50 injections annually.
Must have an interest and experience in the use of injections in the management of musculoskeletal conditions.
Must be able to legally supply and administer POMs and have provision to obtain necessary drugs for supervised student within the PGD agreement.
The standard course fee is £1056.

Receipt of Applications
Once MMU has received both your MMU and HE Co-operative applications, your details will be passed to the academic lead for consideration.

Enrolment
If your application has been successful, you will receive an invitation to enroll. At this stage you will be able to choose how you will pay your fees - a number of payment options are available.
All applicants will require a recent (within 3 years of commencing the course) DBS check at enhanced disclosure level to meet professional body requirements. This must be shown at registration. Additional documentation relating to the DBS check must also be completed; this will be sent to all successful applicants.

Modular study allows you to take one-off units and collect academic credits that you may, where allowable, count towards a future academic award, either at MMU or another university.

Once you have decided whether to apply for a programme or modular study, complete and return an MMU Application Form. You do not need to state at this stage who will fund the course, but you may wish to confirm with your sponsor that they still intend to fund you.
On receipt, your application will be passed to the academic course leader for consideration. MMU will notify you of the outcome as soon as possible.
3) Enrolment
If your application has been successful, you will receive an invitation to enrol. At this stage you will need to present confirmation of your funding. This should take the form of a funding letter from your sponsor, printed on company headed letter paper. The confirmation should include your details, the course(s) for which your sponsor will fund you, the dates of the courses and the full fee amount that will be sponsored. The letter should be signed by an authorised signatory.
