Interests and expertise
I’m broadly interested in how entrepreneurship is constructed as a gendered phenomenon and the implications and impacts of this for students and entrepreneurs. Current research includes the impacts of gendered language in entrepreneurship education, feminist and critical pedagogy in entrepreneurship education, gender and entrepreneurial ecosystems, women entrepreneurs in STEM and entrepreneurship in communities designated as disadvantaged.
I have strong international links and regularly collaborate with colleagues in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) and South Africa on gender, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education projects.
Key interests: Entrepreneurship, HE Entrepreneurship Education, Small Business Research, Gender, Class, Bourdieu’s Theory of Practice, Feminist theory, Intersectionality, Qualitative Research, Engaged-Activist Scholarship.
Projects
Co-I for the STRATEGIESProject WP4 (Horizon/UKRI) from 2025 - 2028. The project supports Europe’s game industries in realising their potential as drivers of sustainable innovation, contributing to achieving the goals of the European Green Deal and delivering an economy that works for people.
Awarded a Leverhulme International Fellowship in 2022, which ran from April 2023 - July 2024. Project title: Exploring Gender and the STEM Entrepreneurial Ecosystem. Underpinned by a critical feminist perspective, the fellowship explored gender dynamics, barriers and enablers within Scandinavian entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) from the perspective of diverse actors in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.
